Ahlfinger died Sunday, March 2, 2008, in Bridgeport.
Born Dec. 19, 1944, in San Antonio to James and Catherine Metz, she married Jim Ahlfinger in 1994 in Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Marsha Hogan; and a grandson, Jeffrey Boatright.
She is survived by a son, Floyd Boatright and wife, Debbie, of Decatur; a brother, Charles Murry of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Justin Robbins, Blair and Emma Boatright, Jaci Kidd, Jamie Hogan and Ashley Preas; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe Boatright and Jaxon Preas.

Arrington died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in Decatur.Born April 15, 1925, in Decatur to Gilbert George and Annie Frankie (Spain) Carr, she was a businesswoman. She married G.H. "Bob" Arrington Nov. 29, 1941, in Decatur. They owned Bob & Edda's Red Wing Shoe Store in Decatur for 38 years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Sims Logue of Decatur; granddaughter, KaSondra Hughes of Decatur; grandsons, David and Danny Sims of Decatur; great-grandchildren, Breanne Fernihough, Russell Sims, Courtney and Chelsea Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Madelyn Fernihough and Bailee Sims.

Born April 20, 1933, in Fort Worth to William Lon and Ardella Bertha (Whetsell) Roberson, she married Thomas Warren Ashton on June 8, 1979 in Decatur and was a retired medical business office manager. She was also a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Elizabeth Wagner of Poolville; sons, Artie Green of North Richland Hills, Kenneth Green of Decatur, and Mark and David Green, both of Pittsburg; step-daughters, Tracey Bruton of Paradise, Tina West of Olathe, Kan., and Audred Safavimehr of Lubbock; sisters, LaVell Mann of Decatur and Marcine Rebstock of Carrollton; sisters-in-law, Frankie Roberson of Hurst, Phyllis Moten of Lewisville and Linda Roberson of Sherwood, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were to be Zachary Bruton, Matthew Brannan, Nathan Ashton, Eric Evans, Jason Evans, Travis Daigneault, David Green, Robert Bruton and Clark Shahan.

Atkerson, Mary Sophia Wilson

A private service for Mary Sophia Wilson Atkerson, 92, of Decatur will be at the Sycamore Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ken May officiating. Interment will be at the Sycamore Cemetery.
Atkerson died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, in Decatur.
Born Aug. 7, 1915, in Sycamore to Andrew and Callie Malcolm, she married G.E. “Babe” Wilson in 1930 in Marietta, Okla. They farmed and ranched in the Sycamore community until G.E. died in 1965. In 1986 she married Leon Atkerson.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, G.E. Wilson and Leon Atkerson.
She is survived by her sons, Bobby Wilson and wife, Raynette, of Decatur and Roland Wilson of Greenwood; daughters, Bernice Ashley and husband, Walter, of Corinth, Janette Pair and husband, Dale, of Tyler and Margaret Jones of Hurst; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Born Sept. 7, 1926, in Paradise to William and Litha Stinett Stevens, she was a Paradise High School graduate. She married Warren Thomas Atkinson Jan. 14, 1946, in Bowie. She was a retired secretary for the Federal Aviation Administration.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 26, 1982; five sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her sons, Zollie Atkinson and wife, Margaret, of Spring and Anthony Atkinson and wife, Tammy, of Laneville; grandchildren, Melissa, Kristin, Shane, Derick and Charlotte; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cleo Moss of Fort Worth, Nora West of Nevada and Thelma Woods of Fort Worth.

Born March 10, 1939, in Great Band, Kan., to Willard and Ruth Cunningham Ooton, she was a homemaker. She married Bobby Gene Baccus Oct. 1, 1997, in Decatur.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Geri.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Kim McCarter and husband, Mark, of California; sons, Kent Deckert and wife, Cari, of Missouri, Kendall Deckert of Texas, Trevor Baccus of Saginaw and Tyler Baccus of Decatur; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Bill Ooton of Florida.

Funeral for Harold Ray Barrett, 81, of Richmond, Calif., and formerly of Chico, was May 3 at Hilltop Community Church in Richmond. Barrett died April 26, 2008.
Born Sept. 24, 1926, in Chico to Tom and Nell Barrett, he graduated from Chico High School in 1944. He worked for Consolidated Aircraft Corp. before joining the Navy and serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked for Chevron for 36 years and retired in 1982. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce, and brothers, Weldon Barrett and T.C. Barrett.He is survived by his second wife, Norma; sons, Raymond and Thomas Barrett; stepson, Gregory Kirk; stepdaughter, Calina Anderton; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bell died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Hereford Regional Medical Center.Born Nov. 22, 1926, in Comanche to John and Ethel Auvenshine, she graduated from Stephenville High School and lived in Decatur, Colorado City and San Angelo. She married Cecil Bell Dec. 24, 1967, in San Angelo and they moved to Hereford in 1971. She was the assistant office manager for Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative, Inc. for more than 25 years and retired in 1996. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, treasurer of the Brazos River Presbyterian Church, an elder of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Clifton and an honorary member of the St. John Baptist Church in Decatur. He worked as a truck driver.

Born Jan. 8, 1919, in Decatur to Norbett Apt and Mary Cates Moore, she married Gene Brummell March 16, 1940, in Decatur. She graduated from Decatur High School and Decatur Baptist College as valedictorian.
She worked as a secretary at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur for 22 years. She was one of the first Girl Scout Leaders of Decatur, as well as a past president of the Decatur Woman’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband in March of 2007.
She is survived by her son, James M. Brummell of Spring; daughters, Nancy Boyd and Jan Brummell, both of Decatur; grandchildren, Derrick Boyd, Crystal Boyd Klose, Nancy Dillard and Caley Satterfield; six great-grandchildren, Emily and Ainsley Boyd, Kyndal and Trey Klose and Brandon and Melany Dillard.

Buck died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, in Walla Walla, Wash.
Born Dec. 18, 1917, in Boyd to John Dee and Bell (Hodge) Pitts, she married Johnnie W. Buck Nov. 23, 1946, in Decatur. He had been a member of the Lost Battalion who spent almost five years as a Japanese prisoner of war during World War II.
She lived most of her life in Decatur before moving to Walla Walla in October 2007. She was a beautician in Decatur and at one time owned a hobby shop with her husband on the north side of the courthouse square.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, a founding member of the Decatur Quilting Club, a member of the Lost Battalion Association, a Wise Regional Hospital auxiliary volunteer and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. She quilted, did crossword puzzles, played checkers and attended garage sales. She was a breast cancer survivor.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999 and her son, Johnnie W. Buck Jr. in 1998.
She is survived by a daughter, Paula Buck Nichols and husband, Skip, of Walla Walla; granddaughters, Paula Michelle Carpenter and Jennifer Baker Nichols of Walla Walla; grandsons, Tyson Buck of Paradise and Trey Buck of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Thomas Carpenter and Nicholas Reese Carpenter of Walla Walla.

She was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Barbara Fischer and Dorothy Cogdell.

Caraway, Laura Helen Stevens

Graveside service for Laura Helen Stevens Caraway, 98, of Longview was Jan. 26 at the Sweetwater Cemetery in Wise County.
Caraway died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, in Longview.
Born Feb. 11, 1909, in Altus, Okla., to Eddie Lee and Rhoda Jane (Womack) Stevens, she was an ordained minister with the Assembly of God church for almost 60 years. She served as an evangelist and interim minister for several churches. She also served as a missionary to Haiti. She was a self-taught artist and was commissioned to paint the Jordan River baptistry mural in the sanctuary of the First Assembly of God Church in Decatur.
She was preceded in death by a husband, R.F. Caraway; two sons, A.E. “Gene” Caraway and Robert Don Caraway; and a granddaughter, Bobbie Jeanne Dallas.
She is survived by three daughters, Helen Dallas of Weatherford, Loretta Ann Caraway of Longview and Paula Jane Rinehart and husband, L.E., of Gilmer; 17 grandchildren, including Donna Jane Tackle and husband, Clinton, of Paradise; 29 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Fred Bell, Kevin Bell, Kynn Morgan, L.E. Rinehart, Joel Rinehart, Robert Caraway and David Caraway.

Clark, John 'J.C.' Carter, Jr.

Funeral for John "J.C." Carter Clark Jr., 88, of Boyd, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at White's Azle Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Azleland Cemetery. Visitation was to be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Clark died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, in Decatur.
Born Nov. 29, 1919, in Rosston, Ark., to John and Jewell Clark, he was a decorated veteran of World War II.
Clark went to school in Arkansas until the sixth grade, when he was put to work in the cotton fields to help his dad. At 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps where he trained in Tempe, Ariz. In 1942, he attempted to join the Army but was told that he didn't weigh enough to join. So he went to the store and bought bananas and ate enough to pass the weigh-in.
After training in Texas, he was stationed in Fort Dix, N.J., and deployed to Europe. He landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day. After fighting his way through to Metz, France, he was wounded and received a Bronze Arrowhead and a Purple Heart. He was hospitalized for 15 months in California.
He returned to his parent's home in Texarkana, and met his wife, Betty L. Thomas in January 1945. They were married in May of 1946.
Clark went to work for RRAD in 1946 and retired after 27 years. He then moved to North Central Texas where he lived until his death.
He was a former Scout Master of Troop 23.
He was preceded in death by siblings, R.L. Clark, Murrah Clark, and Jewell V. Reed; and a son, Jerry Clark.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Frank Clark and wife, Sharlotte, of Cottondale, and James G. Clark of Texarkana; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Clark of Texarkana, Ark.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Cherry; a sister-in-law, Sue Morrison of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral for John Francis “Frank” Clement, 61, of Paradise, was Tuesday in Bridgeport.
Clement died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at his home in Paradise.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1947, in Sault St. Marie, Mich., to Leonard and Margaret Woodgate Clement.
Clement was a U.S. Army veteran. He served two tours in the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. He worked as a civil superintendent for the H.B. Zachary Construction Company. He spent his spare time fishing, “grillin” and “chillin.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Clement.
He is survived by Mary Clement, his wife of 25 years; a son, John Clement; three daughters, Jessica Clement and fiancé, Michael Elsik, of Paradise, Toni Duba and husband, Darrin, of Nebraska and Becky Shaffer and husband, Jamey, of Nebraska; five grandchildren, Dylan, Brynnan, Drew, Garrett and Madison Grace; three brothers, Paul Clement and wife, Patty, Tom Clement and Jerry Clement and wife, Linda, of Minnesota; sister Mary Ann Newcomb and husband, Andy, of Michigan; brother-in-law Jon Barger and wife, Julie, of Nebraska; sister-in-law Anna Gentry and husband, Glenn, of Paradise; and a niece, nephew and numerous family members.

Dawkins died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, in San Antonio.
Born Aug. 1, 1912, in Stillwell, Okla., he served in the U.S. Army before World War II and worked at North American Aviation, building P-51 aircraft during the war. He was a long-time resident of Bridgeport before moving to San Antonio and owned Dee’s Cafe in downtown Bridgeport. During the 1950s, he served as Bridgeport city secretary. He was executive vice-president and director of the First National Bank of Bridgeport, a deacon of the First Baptist Church where he served as treasurer, trustee, Sunday school director and a teacher. He was a member of the Madison Hill Baptist Church in San Antonio.
He was a member of the Lions Club, the chamber of commerce and other civic organizations, and was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the Moslah Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ozelle Dawkins.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Connie Dawkins of Helotes, and his grandchildren, Sherry Johnson, Cody Jamison and Jenna Jamison.

Born Nov. 15, 1937, to Pete and Arvilla Chance Bridges in Sulphur Springs, she was a Baptist and served as a Sunday school teacher. She married Burrell Doty Nov. 11, 1979, in Fort Worth. She visited flea markets, auctions, estate and garage sales.
Doty was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Doty, and several siblings.
She is sruvived by her husband; three daughters, Linda Chance of Seattle, Wash., Lisa Sales of Omaha, Neb., and Donna Strothers and husband, Richard, of Bridgeport; two sons, Michael Billingsley of Seattle, Wash., and Cecil Doty and wife, Susan, of North Attleboro, Mass.; a brother, Pete Bridges of Bridgeport; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Born Sept. 28, 1927, in Throckmorton to Monte and Nina (Steadham) Eavenson, he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He married Margaret Wallace Sept. 10, 1949, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was a rancher in Colorado for almost 50 years. He was a longtime member of the Doric Masonic Lodge in Colorado and the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association. He was active in the Park County 4-H Club. He moved to Texas in 1995 and continued to ranch.
He was preceded in death by his wife in March 1986 and his son, Monte Lee Eavenson, in 1973.
He is survived by his daughter, Janice Williams and husband, Jerry, of Hamer, Idaho; grandchildren, Kami Herring and husband, John, of Stansbury Park, Utah, Chad Williams and wife Latuan of Tetonia, Idaho, Lex Williams and wife, Melissa, of Ucon, Idaho, Penny Kunz and husband, Eric, of Portland, Ore., and Tagg Williams and wife, Darci, of Rigby, Idaho; 15 great-grandchildren, Logan Jack, Kimbri, Josh, Jack, Sicilee, Haddi, Indee, Mia, Savannah, Jaxon, Maigan, Alivia, Aysia, Waklee and Reese; sisters, Elizabeth Cox of Wichita Falls, Gerald Weaver of Wichita Falls and Ann Talley and husband, Alvin, of Midland; one niece and four nephews.

She married Robert Hugh Endres of Custer, Okla., Feb. 5, 1947.She and Robert moved to Alvord in 1963, where she was a member of the Alvord United Methodist Church and was president of the United Methodist Women. She helped develop the Alvord Public Library and served as its first librarian for five years. Due to health reasons, she and Robert moved to Clifton in 2005. Endres died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in Clifton.Born June 8, 1926, near Thomas, Okla., to Leo Henry and Audrey Maude (Hoyt) Endres, he graduated from Custer High School in Custer, Okla. and entered the Army in 1944 and served as a driver for the Regimental Commander during the Occupation of Japan. He married Betty Chase Feb. 5, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was recalled from reserve status to active duty in the U.S. Air force during the Korean War and was stationed at Warner-Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia. The family returned to Oklahoma City in 1952 where Bob graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1956 with a degree in industrial arts. In 1963, the family moved to Alvord where he worked with automobile and farm equipment dealerships. In 1973, Bob re-entered the Army Reserve program and was an instructor in the 4159 USAR School in Fort Worth for several years. He attained the rank of sergeant first class and retired in August of 1988 as the oldest enlisted reservist in the United States. He received two achievement awards and the Army Commendation Medal. After attending auctioneer school in the early 1980s, he became active in the local auction business and volunteered at church and school functions.He was preceded in death by his wife and his sister, Evelyn Matthews.He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Endres and husband, Beau Crosby, of Woodway and Doris Flora and husband, Mike, of Alvord; sons, Marshall Endres and wife, Donna, of Decatur and Greg Endres and wife, Pat, of Alvord; four granddaughters, Lesley Goodson, Meagan and Rachel Endres and Ralene Schlit; four step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Pallbearers were to be Earl Ashford, Charles French, Brian Brookhouse and members of the Wise County Veteran's Group.Memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels program of the First United Methodist Church of Alvord, 100 W. Finch died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, in Decatur. Born Nov. 16, 1917, in Jayton to John Henry Finch and Ida Beth Allen Finch, the family moved to Spur when he was 1. He married his childhood friend, Nelma Spraberry, in 1939. He transported fuel and ammunition for the Navy during World War II. He was a minister for 59 years with the Assemblies of God, Southern California District Council, retiring in 1989. He read, fished, hunted and restored cars. He and Nelma moved to Decatur in November of 2007.He was preceded in death by his sister, Florene; son-in-law, Frank Graham; and a grandson, Michael Braly. Flack, Michael Kevin

Flack died Tuesday, March 18, 2008.
Born Dec. 27, 1956, in Glendale, Calif., to Robert and Carol (Hanna) Flack, he graduated from Glendale High School in 1975. He was a member of the Glendale Presbyterian Church and was active with the church in his youth.
He moved to the Mojave Desert after graduation and was a heavy equipment operator at U.S. Borax until an automobile accident in October 1980 left him a quadriplegic. During his recovery years he lived in Pasadena, Calif., and was active in various handicapped advocacy groups and MADD.
He moved to Auburn, Calif., in 1988 and co-founded Placer Independent Resource Services in 1993. He served as vice president, president and chairman of the board and was involved in services for the handicapped, including support groups, independent living skills and advocacy for the disabled at city, county and state levels.
He moved to Azle in 2006 and then to Boyd in 2007.
He is survived by his son, Joshua Michael Flack and wife, Jamie, of Boyd; grandchildren, Nina Anne Flack and Eben Michael Dean Flack of Decatur; his mother and her husband, Ron Tucker, of Meadow Vista, Calif.; his father and his wife, Irene, of Auburn; brother, David Flack and wife, Vicki, of Meadow Vista; sister, Nancy Adams and husband, Roy, of Colfax, Calif.; nephews, nieces and an uncle.

She married Willis Albert “Al” Fleming Oct. 5, 2001, in Delta. She cooked, listened to country western music, played the guitar and sang. She was learning to paint.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Shawn M. Kennedy and wife, Rachel, of Paradise and Ryan P. Kennedy and wife, Sissy, of Bridgeport; half brothers, Harry Baker “Skip” Eicholtz Jr. of Maryland and David Dishlacoff of New York; a half sister, Diane Dalmy of Denver; and grandchildren, Meagan, Reid and Connor Kennedy.

Ford died Monday, July 21, 2008. Born July 23, 1942, in Dalhart to Charles Henry and Bonnie Fay (Richey) Ford, he married Patsy Bolton Nov. 12, 1961, in Bryan. He and Patsy were owners of the Russell's Department Store in Decatur and Bowie for many years. Charles was past president and director of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Texas Retailer's Association. He was active in the Decatur Retail Merchants Association and he pioneered the "Lucky 7" and "Moonlight Madness". Charles served on the Decatur water board and on the Decatur School Board.He was a deacon and a teacher of Sunday school classes for more than 30 years at the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Funeral for James Roger Gage, 84, of Decatur was Wednesday at Decatur Church of Christ with Rick Ross officiating. Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Gage died Sunday, March 16, 2008, in Decatur.
Born May 23, 1923, in Sycamore to Elmer and Sophia Harder Gage, he was a graduate of Decatur Baptist College. He was a bookkeeper for Central Telephone and Sandford Oil Company of Decatur. He was a member of the Decatur Lion’s Club, Decatur Jaycees, past president of the Decatur Eagle Booster Club and a member of the Decatur Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Gage and Vic Gage.
He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Helen Gage of Gunter and Betty Gage of Denton; nephew, Brian Gage and wife, Laine, of Decatur, David Gage and wife, Mary, of Gunter and Brent Gage and wife, Clyde’ette of Decatur; nieces, Vicky Gage Laws of Denton and Cathy Nelson and husband, Alan, of Denton; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Born Feb. 6, 1913, to Cleve and Mary Tillery in Mt. Vernon, she was one of 11 children. She was raised in East Texas and moved to Arlington in 1962. She quilted and sewed. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arlington, serving for more than 25 years in the preschool ministry. She married Cesario "Charlie" Garza June 23, 2007, in Decatur.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Danny Vestal, two brothers and one sister. Gilbert died Feb. 16, 2008, in Runaway Bay.
Born Feb. 3, 1924, in Hodge, La., to William E. Sr. and Mattye Seals Gilbert, he married Audrey Lewis Feb. 2, 1946, in Bossier City, La. He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Queensboro Lodge in Shreveport, La. He was a Presbyterian. He and his wife have lived in the Runaway Bay community since 1982.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas H. Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife; son, Michael Gilbert and wife, Carolyn Sue, of Houston; three daughters, Jeannene O’Quinn and husband, Gary, of Cypress, Cindy Bullion and husband, Jack, of Decatur and Liz Dale and husband, Gene, of McKinney; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Deborah, Kathryn, Colette, Anthony, Keegan, Lewis and Nick; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Luke, Elizabeth, Liam, Brooklyn and Jordan.
