MARION GREEN FAMILY

Marion Green was born July 12, 1852, in the county of Conecuh, in Alabama. He was the son of Christopher Columbus W. Green, a farmer and native of the same county and state. Marion was the grandson of John Green, who was born in South Carolina, migrated to Georgia in early life and finally settled in Conecuh County, Alabama. The family was a distinguished one of colonial times and some of his sons fought in the patriotic armies of the American Revolution.

Marion Green came into Wise county in 1890. He left his native county of Conecuh, Alabama, at twenty years of age and farmed a year each in Choctaw County, Alabama and Mississippi. Upon entering Texas, he turned the soils of Grayson, Hunt, Panola, Collin and Denton counties before settling in Wise County.

Marion Green came to Texas a single man, but married in November 1876 in Grayson County to Margaret Redell, daughter of Charles Redell. Marion and Charles had twelve children, nine sons and three daughters: John Franklin Green, Charlie Washington Green, William Ashley Green, Frances Elizabeth Green (Wright), Alexander Hamilton Green, Ida Pearl Green (Smith), Thomas Lafayette Green, Lilla Ann Green (Hawkins), Marion Robert Green, James Monroe Green, George Homer Green, and Grady Cordell Green.

His farm embraced the ninety acres of the Margaret Swift survey, but his two hundred and forty acre tract was completed by the additions from the Anderson and Moore surveys. With all under fence and in cultivation, he was among the large farmers of this locality.
