GARY
I am writing to you from Austin, having found you on the Wise
County homepage. I am just beginning research into my Wise County
ancestors surnames MASSIE and GARY. Specifically James Barnet(Barnett)
MASSIE who lived in Newark between approximately 1880 and 1910. I believe he owned
property and should be on the tax roles. Also Thomas J. GARY, about the same
time period, also in Newark. James Barnet MASSIE married Harriet Louisa
nee' GARY (daughter of Thomas J.) in Wise County about 1888. I think Thomas
J GARY and Harriet Louisa Gary MASSIE died in Wise County. I would really
appreciate ANY direction you can give me on beginning to discover more about
my great and great great grandparents. I would be willing to make a trip
to Wise County. Also, there is a possibility that MASSIE could be spelled
MASSEY,but I think MASSIE is correct. Thank you so much, looking forward
to hearing from you.

GOLHKA Thanks for your time and please contact me with ANYTHING you may know.
We have been looking for many, many years for some record of what happened to 1/2 of our ancestor's family. Our ancestor's are Thomas Greenstreet and Lavina Samuels and they married in Adair co., Mo in 1852 and moved their 10 children to Montague Co., Texas in April of 1876. According to the 1880 census they settled around St. Joseph and some were still there by 1900. WE are "told" that Thomas died 1886 at St. Jo's and wife Lavina died 1883. 3 girls we've found marriage records for in Texas=Innis (or Enis) marrried James Moses Phillips 1877 in Montague, Lucy M. married WM hale in 1887 in Wise Co., and Alba married William S. Chancey in 1886 in Texas. But for all the written correspondence and searching of census and other records we can't find any record of what happened to Abner who was last listed as a male of 16 in 1880 census (a twin to Alba), John L. who was 13 years old in 1880, Clara who is 10 years old in 1880, 2 twins==a boy and a girl both with the initials E.M. in the 1880 census and were 8 years only, and a W. Greenstreet, male who was 4 years old. We've tried to track the older siblings but none have showed up with them so far? Was there some kind of epidemic or something to kill all these children after 1880 and before 1900.

Hart and his family. They had moved there from Hunt Co. I know that one
of the women was killed by Indians in the 1860's, Narcissa Stephenson Hart,
wife of John T's son, William R. Hart. By 1870 I find most of the Harts
back in Hunt Co. Many of the family members are gone, and there are
several Harts appointed as guardians of children who are not theirs.
My question is, was there an epidemic in Wise Co. in the later 1860's or
could it have been Indian raids that claimed the lives of so many? Are
there an records of the Indian raids other than the one posted on the Wise
Co. website? (I only saw one there, but I can check for more). Thanks,

GLANTON/HOLLINGSWORTH/POTEET
I am searching for information on John Henry Dibble Glanton and his wife M. J. (Mattie Jane?) Hollingsworth. They married in Giles Co, Tennessee in 1873. They lived in Wise Co Texas at some time in the late 1800's and early 1900's. According to an undated obit from the "Messenger" Mrs. J.H.D. Glanton age 72 was buried at Decatur Cemetery. The obit says she was a native of Tennessee and came to Texas as a child and settled in Wise Co. It goes on to say that she leaves a husband, 5 sons and 2 daughters. It says that Rev. Prichett officiated at the funeral services and that arrangements were carried out by C.L. Christian. There is also a "Card of Thanks", also undated thanking family and friends for their support signed by JHD and children
I know that they had a daughter Dollie who married James Ira Stancil in Jefferson Co, Al in 1904. I know that they had sons Cliff, Ed and Thomas. I have a 1913 letter from MJ in Alabama to Elizabeth Poteet in Decatur Texas in which she calls her "sister". I have been unable to locate any information other information on JHD until the 1920 census when he was living with his daughter and her family.

LaDarla, thank you so much for being so prompt. I'll try to get by the
Court House and see if they would have a death certificate. Adam JOHNSON
had a big family and quite a few stayed around there. I recall one had a
meat market - and a big dog that was tied out back - at the ripe old age
of about 4, I got out there and was having a fine time with the dog, but
no one could get close to get me away - GOOD dog! G-uncle Ad Johnson had
a gin, I believe, also. Looking forward to trying to put the puzzle
together. And will be grateful for anyone who can help with answers.
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely, Fred.....

My Grandfather Charles Franklin Jordan was born in Cottondale, Texas in 1894, but the real interesting one is my GreatGrandfather Perry L. Jordan, we don't know much about him and he is supposedly listed on the
1880 census for Wise County, Cottondale, do you have access to that census, does it list where he came from??? or how many kids he had at that point. My Grandfather came from a large family, 11 brothers and
sisters so we are tracking them down.
Thanks,
Keith Jordan
