Information sent to us by Gloria Logsdon-Lucus Memeluke@sbcglobal.net
She writes, "Green Elm Cemetery was first known as Vermer Cemetery, then called Elm Wood Cemetery, and later named Green Elm. The cemetery was surveyed and belonged to my 2nd great grandfather, Harvey B. Verner. When his 3rd wife, Martha D. Verner, died in January 1877 she was the first person buried in the cemetery. Harvey B. Verner is also buried in the cemetery but has no marker.
He was born about 1821 in Alabama and died 08 May 1893 at his home in Wizard Wells, Jack Co, TX."

Location – Green Elm Cemetery is located on the east edge of Jack County. It is close to Green Elm Bridge (where the West Fork of the Trinity River comes into the northwest end of Lake Bridgeport). From Wise County take Fm Rd 1810 (the road to Jacksboro) out of Chico toward the west for about 8 miles. Turn left on County Line Road (there’s a cemetery sign). Go 3.6 miles and turn right on Long Road. Go 0.3 miles and turn at the first right. In 0.5 miles you will come to the Dynegy station on the left. Take the left fork of a “Y” and the cemetery is straight ahead 0.3 miles.

Condition - You will turn left at the “Y” at the Dynergy station (picture above).  A right turn will take you to the old Green Elm Bridge (picture above). The pictures above were made in 2001.

In August 2004 a new gate had been placed at the entrance to the cemetery (picture above).  In 2001 and 2004 the grounds of the cemetery were cleared of brush and the headstones were easy to see.

Layout – We took pictures and numbered the 23 headstones as we came to them going south up the hill into the cemetery. No rows were layed out. The Burrow, Moser & Long stones were in the small fenced area pictured below.
