Eastside Bridgeport Cemetery is located on the southeast edge of town. When you come into Bridgeport from the south on Hwy 114, turn right on Cates Street. Just past the old elementary school turn right on 17th Street. Go past the Jr. high school and the cemetery is straight ahead at the end of the street.
The older sections (established in
1892) are to the right of the main gate. The newest part is on the left or east side. In
January 2001 we photographed and recorded 2115 headstones.
In April 2010, sections 5 and 6
(the newer sections) were rephotographed. 300 new headstones were found making a
new total of 2415.
The new pictures and information have been added to the alphabetical
listings for the whole county, and also, all of the new
pictures are linked in the "layout order" data at the bottom of this
page.
The "Hunt" headstone, that's by the west fence of the cemetery,
marks some graves that were moved to that location when Lake Bridgeport was built in the
1930's
(For more pictures and history Click Here for the pages on Cactus Hill
Cemetery).
A
Historical Marker has been set by this headstone. Also, notice the new
elementary school in the background.
